Palazzo Guerrieri
Palazzo Guerrieri brings the voice of 17th-century Brindisi into the old town: the residence of one of the noble families that left their mark on the city’s image between the 17th and 18th centuries.
Measure, not excess
Like all of Apulia after the earthquakes of the 17th and 18th centuries, Brindisi rebuilt with new energy. Here a more sober, austere tone was adopted, in keeping with the character of a port city. The local limestone, the worked portals and the windows with their contained mouldings reveal a cultivated hand, aware of classicism yet able to translate it into a local idiom.
The balconies as a stage
The balconies, with their wrought iron and carved stone brackets, were the stage from which the family showed itself to the city: in the 17th and 18th centuries to lean out from one’s palace was a public declaration of rank. In the proportion of the whole, and in the stone that the Salento sun turns gold in the late afternoon, lies the quiet story of a city that has always built with dignity.
